I’ve always assumed that the paisley pattern was desiged for clothing by popular fashion companies. That is only partially correct.

It’s originally Persian and it’s called Boteh. This teardrop shape motif used on textiles goes back to the 11th century, perhaps earlier. It is also very common in India, Azerbaijan, Turkey and other countries in the area. It made its way to Scotland from the Kashmir area and it is said to have been a motif which was used by the elite and was woven in silk to be used for clothing.

In the 18th century it became quite popular in Europe. Paisley, a Scottish town near Glasgow, inspired the English name for this design. At the time, Paisley was a major center for the weaving industry. In the 1960s sheep’s wool was used to mass-produce imitations of these original patterns.

In the summer of 1967 this design became associated with the psychedelic aesthetic/Bohemian style and was produced for the fashion industry, as well as wallpapers and fabrics.

In English-speaking countries, this pattern is still used for men’s ties, scarves and vests. This pattern is still popular in Iran and many Asian countries for a range of clothing and textiles.

Finding information and then designing my own paisley pattern for my e-shop products was so exciting and inspiring! Take a look at the templates here. Paisley patterns will always be fashionable and their colors will be adjusted to match the fashion of the season. Decorating a party with a paisley design motif definitely adds class and excitement!

My name is Artemis, I was born in Paisley, Scotland and I live in Greece with my family in a friendly neighbourhood south of Athens.

I have been working as a freelance graphic designer for more than 20 years for various companies and on many different types of creative projects, such as logos, stationary, books, brochures, posters, and many more.

About 10 years ago I had an idea to create a do-it-yourself website for those who wish to decorate a party from the comfort of their own home. Party decorations for all ages and for all occasions!

I had put it aside for a while until… my daughter asked for a party theme I could not find, so here I am, creating templates and themes, making videos, photo shooting and bringing them together to create DIYpartycreations.com!

I’d also like to introduce you to the people that helped me with my first steps. My husband, Christos, with his valuable guidance and research, Mirto’s excellent programming skills who made this project come together and last but not least, my daughter Alexandra, who is my strictest judge, greatest critic and most fanatic supporter! All contributed to the success of this project.

I’m excited to share my organizing tips, templates, games, recipes, crafts and more that I’ve used successfully at events and parties for many years.

If you like organizing or doing things from scratch, you are at the right place! I’ll try to make it as simple as possible for everyone and share things I’ve tried firsthand.

I hope to help you plan beautiful events with as little stress as possible, on a budget you can afford, and so that your guests can enjoy and appreciate everything you’ve planned for them with your own personal touch!

Please let me know what you think, and send me pictures of your accomplishments!

Create memorable events and have fun doing it…
